Greig Burgoyne & Michele Tocca - THE CLEARING

A two person show with Rome based painter Michele Tocca and UK based performance artist Greig Burgoyne. Through a series of paintings by Tocca, and installation and 2 film performances by Burgoyne The clearing will explore the paradox between what denotes the act of appearance alongside what constitutes its materiality. Taking as its starting point the concept of ‘the clearing’ as formulated by Martin Heidegger, is to say the genesis of the act of making and bringing into appearance is not that thing we see but the event that is sensed. As such, it is beyond appearance, in a situation of coming into appearance ,beyond the exteriorly of aesthetics. Instead, indicative of that facticity of being in itself. The works in this show seek to extend upon this process of disclosure by the act of concealment, as a result what is hidden is in fact an opening up of what is truly there, where the elemental supersedes the thing.
